Visit Legacy Prairie Park this Saturday!

Greetings,

You are cordially invited to join the Town of New Glarus Park Commission on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.  We will be walking the property of our new Community Park at W6599 State Hwy 39, New Glarus to see what all we’ve accomplished this year, and to share it with area residents.  In case you haven’t yet been there, the park is located on the south side of Hwy 39, about 2 miles west of Bailey’s Run Winery.  Please note that the driveway is shared by a private residence, so once you enter, please follow the signs to the right and follow the road to the parking area.  Please do not park in the entrance lane.  There will be signs to point you in the right direction.

We now have a temporary parking lot near the north end of the property, we’ve built and seeded four miles of hiking trails and we’ve begun preparations to install a community orchard and the first five acres of prairie.  See yourself what a delightful place our new park is for folks to relax, enjoy nature and get some good exercise.  While you’re there, we encourage you to dream a little.  Imagine the prairie in bloom and the orchard ripe for picking.  Take in the panoramic views and think how nice it would be to hold a family gathering there.  As always, do let us know how we can improve the park.  Help us to envision how we can make the best use of this incredible resource for the benefit of the entire community.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that these incredible developments would not have happened without the cooperation of the community. The Town would not have received permission to transfer its DNR grant to build trails within the park if we hadn’t partnered with the high school cross country team.  We wouldn’t be able to move forward with the whole project had dozens of people not participated at our Community Input Night.  Great things can happen when we all work together!
